Users partially disappearing from RDS

We are seeing a phenomena whereby groups are being corrupted as follows:-

  1. A user is assigned to a group and appears within that group correctly for some time.  Editing the user shows them to be in the group, editing the group shows the user to be a member and looping through the users in the group will find them OK.

  2. Some time later the user will stop appearing in the group and will stop being found when looping through the users.  However, if you edit the user, the group is still listed as follows:-

Has anyone seen this problem before?  If so, what is the fix?  We can repair RDS after the fact, but we need to stop it happening.

Don't know; never used RDS.  But perhaps the following tid-bit may help a little:

  • For DOORS: Users are in Groups.  There is no such thing in the database as Groups in which a User is a member.  In order to find the Groups for which a User is a member you must query all the groups.  Trying to find "missing in-link references" isn't going to work since there are none for User-Groups.
  • For RDS: I have no idea.

I suggest therefore that your DOORS user 203579 has been dis-associated with your RDS user by the same name.

Another possibility is you have two users:

  • "203579"
  • "203579 "

This is why I'm in the habit of this sort of thing; so I can see leading/trailing spaces:

  • print "User name is [" NameUser "]\n"

Thanks for the input.  Just to clarify, the "member" is the DXL function that returns "true" if the given user is in the given group.  The small bit of code was to demonstrate that the two ways to find users in a group using DXL both fail to find the user, even though the user details show they are in the group.  It is definitely an RDS phenomena (or Bug!).  We have already eliminated any possibility of two similar names, such as trailing spaces and with RDS active you cannot set up users in DOORS manually, all users and groups are controlled through RDS/LDAP.

Understand I am just brain storming what I would try in my ignorance if I were in your shoes.  Hopefully someone who knows that they are doing will chime in here.

Get a backup database to play around in. Good luck with that.

What happens if you turn RDS off, remove the User from the Group in DOORS, then turn RDS back on?  I would suppose RDS, being the King-Ping, would presume It has the correct information and doesn't care what DOORS says, since it controls DOORS and they "cannot" get out of sync.

I'm guessing that "Edit RDS User" dialog is DOORS requesting the information from RDS, not DOORS checking its own information.

In this case, if you remove the user from the group in RDS, save, then add the user into the group with RDS, I'm supposing DOORS will now show it in the Group.

I don't see much I the way of "RDS" command perms.  I wonder if there is a plethora of "RDS" functions however.
